Art and Design

At Skelton School it is our intent to provide a high-quality art and design education where children are inspired and challenged, whilst being equipped with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.  We aim to enable our pupils to think critically, develop a good understanding of the subject and to understand how art and design both reflect and shape our history and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.  Art, craft and design embody some of the highest forms of human creativity.  Creativity comes in every form, and we believe that being creative and having the confidence to explore and experiment is a fundamental life skill.  Our curriculum allows children the opportunity to communicate, explore, express their emotions and develop positive mental health in a safe, caring community and acts as a steppingstone to developing a creative confidence - an essential skill that can be carried forward into so many areas of their future lives.  We believe that art, craft and design make the world a better place and that anyone can be an artist!

Year 1&2 Collage Project - using the initial letter in our names and using a minimum of 2 different materials to fill it in.

Fabulous art at Skelton School! Everyone can be an artist!

Some fabulous art in Year 5/6

Year 5/6 working in the style of Alfred Wainwright

Year 5/6 have been working on printing and making monotypes. We’ve finished our final booklets today and we think they look great!

Year 5/6 - Typography and Maps. We started our unit by looking at cut-out typography with card and paper and made a range of different font designs. We then looked at drawing on top of exciting world maps before using our imagination to create some maps of our own. We thought carefully about the font to label each place on our map. Our final piece was a collaborative piece of art work which we created together as a class!
