Religious Education takes two broad forms: learning about religion and learning about oneself from religion.
As we are a community school, religious education is not of a doctrinal or denominational nature. Our RE teaching follows the Cumbria Agreed Syllabus (see below) and is planned to encompass different world-views and a wide variety of themes, such as the study of sacred texts and symbols or the lives of religious leaders.
Children develop an awareness and knowledge of different world-views, primarily Christianity, Buddhism and Islam. Aspects from other world-views may also be covered but not in as much depth, meaning that children develop a broad understanding of beliefs and the world around them, allowing them an opportunity to reflect on their own worldview.
This subject is taught and explored through discreet lessons, one-off sessions such as for special celebrations, through assemblies, looking at artefacts or through visitors and visits.
