SEND

At Skelton School we strive to support all pupils to enable them to achieve their full potential at school. In order to do this, many steps are taken to support them through their learning journey.

Quality teaching is vital; however, for some children there are occasions when further additional support may be needed to help them achieve their targets. Teaching assistants and support staff are deployed in each class to work with groups or individuals. We try to help by matching each child's work with their individual needs and abilities, within their own class. However, sometimes children are withdrawn from their classroom to receive specialist individual or small group support from teaching assistants or support staff. We work closely with external agencies to assess children who have specific learning difficulties.

Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) is responsible for managing the SEN provision across the school.

Miss Sophie Dobinson is the SENDCo and she can be contacted at school on 017684 84367.

Definition of Special Educational Need - SEND Code of Practice 2015

A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. A child of compulsory school age or a young person has a learning difficulty or disability if they:

a) have a significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age; or

b) have a disability which prevents or hinders them from making use of educational facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in mainstream schools or mainstream post-16 institutions.”
